Delacombe Park Dog Off Leash Area

Delacombe Park is a bushland style reserve in Frankston South with mature trees, sporting ovals and designated free roam pockets set within the larger park. It suits dogs that want a natural walk and a good sniff through the trees rather than a flat mowed field, and unlike many free roam areas it comes with proper facilities around the edges.

The dog setup

Off leash runs 24 hours a day but only within the designated free roam zones. Dogs stay under effective voice or hand control, you carry a leash at all times, and a dog that does not reliably recall stays clipped on. Under Frankston City Council rules greyhounds are not permitted off lead in free roam areas, and dogs are excluded from the upper fenced sports oval, the playground and barbecue and picnic areas, plus the lower oval whenever a match or organised event is on. Clean up after your dog and use the bins provided.

Worth knowing

The park's facilities make it an easy family outing: an on site car park, public toilets, an undercover picnic shelter with barbecues, a playground and water taps, though bring your own bowl to be safe. The home ground of the Delacombe Park Cricket Club sits here, so check what is on the ovals in season. Because much of the reserve is natural bush, the tracks turn muddy after rain, and dogs should stay out of any revegetation or native planting zones.

Getting there and parking

The park sits in Frankston South a few minutes drive from central Frankston, with parking in the on site car park. Buses run along the Nepean Highway and nearby roads, so check PTV for the current route that serves the park.

Close by with the dogs

Weekends and the early morning and late afternoon slots are busiest; mid morning or mid afternoon on a weekday is the calmer choice for an anxious dog. For a fully fenced alternative, the Cobb Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Mount Eliza is close, and the big open bowl of Woodside Avenue is the other Frankston South free roam option. For coffee after, Flourish Cafe up at Olivers Hill and Rosie's Kitchen Pantry both work with a dog in tow.
