Woodside Avenue Dog Off Leash Area

Woodside Avenue is a large, natural off-leash reserve in Frankston South, shaped like a grassy bowl with steep, wooded embankments around it. It gives dogs room to run and explore, and it is off-leash around the clock, but the facilities are bare-bones and one side backs onto a busy road.

The rules. Dogs run off-leash 24/7 under effective voice control. Carry a leash and clip on if recall drops. Greyhounds are not permitted off-lead under Frankston's rules. Clean up after your dog; bins are provided, but bring your own bags to be safe.

What's there. Very little: an open grassy area with a dirt track through it, and street parking on Woodside Avenue. There are no water taps, toilets or shelters, so bring water and a bowl for your dog.

Getting there. Access is via Woodside Avenue, off Nepean Highway or Moorooduc Highway in Frankston South. Frankston Station is the nearest train station, roughly a 5 to 7 minute drive or a short bus trip away.

Watch-outs. The reserve is only partially fenced, and the southern side is open to a busy road, so keep dogs with shaky recall well clear of that boundary. The grassy bowl can turn muddy after heavy rain.

Early weekday mornings and mid-morning on weekends are the calmer windows. Weekday evenings (around 5 to 7pm) tend to draw the local after-work crowd.
