Ballam Park Dog Off-Leash and Fenced Agility Park

Ballam Park's off-leash zone sits at the rear of the wider reserve on Cranbourne Road in Frankston, and its drawcard is the fully fenced agility area: a tennis-court-sized enclosure kitted out with hurdles, ramps, weave poles and a crawl tunnel. A larger open grassed area sits right alongside for a general run.

The dog setup

Dogs must be under effective control across the off-leash area. The athletics track, East Oval, North Oval and the South Reserve soccer pitch are out of bounds, and you need control within 10 metres of the playgrounds, barbecues and picnic spots. Access along the northern and eastern boundaries of the Homestead is limited to 6am to 8am only, so check the signage on site before you route your walk. The fenced agility section has hurdles of varying heights, jump-through hoops, a balance beam, a bridge and weave poles built from recycled materials, plus a water tap with a dog bowl, waste bins, bench and picnic seating, shade trees, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking.

Max: the fenced agility pen is small. On a busy Sunday it fills fast, so use the open grass alongside if your dog wants room to move.

Worth knowing

Reports have flagged patchy maintenance in the agility area, so check the gear before you trust it with an enthusiastic jumper. Weekday mornings before 8am and late evenings are the quietest times, and Sunday late morning is the peak. It is a good fit for dogs who like structured play and a secure fence to settle into.

The address is 280R Cranbourne Road, Frankston, with dedicated parking nearby. It is tucked at the back of the reserve, so allow a minute to find it. Bus routes run along Cranbourne Road and Frankston Station is a short drive away.
