Peninsula Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Peninsula Reserve, on the corner of Frank Street and Jacana Avenue, is one of Frankston's most used community off-leash spaces, with extensive open grass made for running and socialising. It is partly fenced rather than fully enclosed, so it rewards dogs with a reliable recall and owners who actually watch the game.

The free-roam rules

Off-leash dogs stay under effective voice or hand control, with a lead carried at all times, and the limit is four dogs per person. The reserve borders the Frankston YCW cricket and Frankston Raiders rugby league grounds, so keep well clear whenever matches or training are on, and stay 10 metres back from children's playgrounds. Restricted and dangerous breeds are not permitted off-lead anywhere in the free-roam zone. Bins are provided, so pick up as you go.

The vibe

This is a genuine community park with a friendly regular crowd, walking paths, open green space and recently upgraded toilets inside the reserve. It is open and sunny rather than shaded, so bring water on hot afternoons. Weekend mornings from around 9am to 11am and weekday evenings between 4:30pm and 6pm draw the most dogs; mid-week mornings and mid-afternoons give a timid dog more room to move.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along both Frank Street and Jacana Avenue. By car it is a short run from the Frankston CBD via Frankston-Flinders Road, and buses service that road directly. Frankston Railway Station is roughly 1.5 to 2 kilometres away, walkable if you do not mind a lead-on approach through town.

Close by with the dogs

For a fully enclosed option when the partial fencing is a worry, Ballam Park pairs its off-leash area with a fenced agility course, and Worland Park is another Frankston off-leash reserve worth knowing. In summer, the Seaford (Keast Park) Off-Leash Dog Beach down the bay makes an easy second stop, and Agha Juice & Cafe in Frankston covers the coffee afterwards.

Max: Partly fenced means partly trusting your dog. Mine earned it over two years of boring recalls.
