John Butler Reserve Fenced Dog Park

John Butler Reserve is a fully fenced, leafy off-leash park on Mount Eliza Way, open 24 hours and laid out so owners can walk internal paths while the dogs do laps. Mature shade trees, natural log obstacles and a secure double gate make it a reliable everyday option, especially for dogs that simply behave better behind a fence.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies strictly inside the fenced zone, entered through a double-gated airlock: close the first gate before opening the second. Dogs stay on lead in the car park and on approach paths. Owners are expected to remain inside, supervise, and keep voice or visual control, and any dog showing aggression gets leashed and removed. Bins are on site for waste. An external tap with communal bowls covers water, benches and picnic tables are scattered around, and the established trees throw good shade. Parts of the reserve turn muddy after heavy rain, so pick your line after a wet week.

This is a friendly neighbourhood park with a regular crowd, roomy enough that dogs can genuinely run rather than mill about. The internal paths are the quiet advantage: you can keep moving on a cold morning instead of standing in one spot while the dogs play.

The on-site car park sits right at the entrance off Mount Eliza Way, with wheelchair-accessible parking and entry. The village is close enough that plenty of locals walk in, which saves the car park doing double duty at peak times.

Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are calmest; weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons are the busy windows. For a quieter run with fewer dogs about, aim for before 8am on a weekday.
