Ramsden Street Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Ramsden Street Reserve sits alongside Merri Creek in Clifton Hill, a large open space built around a sports oval with native planting and the Capital City Trail running straight through it. Off-leash time here comes with conditions, but the creek-side setting and trail access make it a rewarding inner-north stop.

The rules

This is a shared sports ground, so dogs can go off-leash on the oval only when it is not booked for approved sport or training. When a game or session is on, dogs must be on lead and at least 10 metres from the ground boundary. The reserve is not fenced and opens toward nearby roads and the creek, so solid recall is essential, and dogs must stay leashed on the Merri Creek trails that border the park.

On the ground

You get a drinking fountain, patches of shade, a modern pavilion and the sealed Capital City Trail looping past the oval, with free street parking along Ramsden Street. Winter football and summer cricket occupy the ground most weekends, so the reliable off-leash window is mid-week mornings and early afternoons; if the oval is booked out, walk the creek trail on lead instead.

Worth knowing

Weekend mornings and weekday evenings are the busiest times, often overlapping with organised training. Treat this as a flexible urban reserve rather than a secure dog park: great for dogs with good manners and a reliable recall, less so for flight risk.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits directly on the Capital City Trail, so it is an easy walk or ride from Northcote and Collingwood, and Clifton Hill station is within walking distance. By car, take the Clifton Hill exit off the Eastern Freeway into the local streets around the reserve.

Close by with the dogs

Rotate the visit with the Darling Gardens off-leash area or Quarries Park Dog Off Leash Area, both nearby. For coffee afterwards, Dirty Apron Cafe on Ramsden Street is steps from the reserve, and Rubber Duck Cafe is another local option.
