What visitors mention
This is the fully fenced off-leash oval at Victoria Park, Abbotsford - the old Collingwood Football Club home ground, now a secure grass space that ranks among the better enclosed dog areas in inner Melbourne. The draw is simple: solid fencing, a big flat oval, and a train station right beside it. If your dog needs room to run without a road anywhere near, this is the one.
The rules. Off-leash applies on the oval only when it is not booked for sport - VFL matches, training and community events take priority, and dogs go back on lead when the ground is in use. The oval is fenced but has several gates, so check them behind you. Everywhere else in the park, including near the criterium cycling track, is on-leash. Effective voice control is expected even inside the fence.
What's there. Water taps with bowls, rubbish bins, and the old spectator terraces for seating and shade on the banks. The oval surface itself is open and largely unshaded, so factor that in on hot afternoons.
Getting there. Entry near the corner of Lulie and Abbot Streets, 3067. Victoria Park Railway Station sits right alongside, and the Capital City Trail passes nearby for those arriving on foot or by bike. Free four-hour street parking rings the park but fills on event days.

Nearby with the dogs. The Collingwood Children's Farm and its Farm Cafe are a short walk for on-lead outdoor seating, and riverside cafes along the Yarra sit close by for a post-run coffee.
When to go. Busiest weekday evenings 5-7pm and weekend mornings. For a nervous or young dog, aim for mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday when the oval is quiet and you can use the far end. Always cross-check the football schedule first.
