The Farm Cafe

The Farm Cafe sits inside the Collingwood Children's Farm at 18 St Heliers Street, a working farm right on the Yarra a few minutes from the CBD. Rustic country-style food, STREAT coffee, and enough open ground that it reads more paddock than café. Dogs are welcome, with one important condition covered below.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the casual outdoor seating, on lead. Indoor seating is not open to pets. The wider farm has livestock and free-roaming animals, so a lead is not optional here - keep your dog close and calm around the pens. Bring your own water bowl; the setup is casual and not always kitted out for dogs.

Good to know. Reviewers rate the scones, sausage rolls and milkshakes, and the setting does the heavy lifting - greenery, farm animals and a slower pace than the surrounding inner north. Weekend mornings are the busiest stretch, so arrive early for an outdoor table.

Getting there. Limited parking on St Heliers Street, with overflow usually available at the neighbouring Abbotsford Convent. Note the farm may charge entry on some days, so check before you plan a cheap coffee run.

Nearby with the dogs. The Abbotsford Convent grounds next door suit an easy on-lead wander, and the Main Yarra Trail runs close by for a longer riverside walk afterwards.
