Highland Heritage Cellar Door

Highland Heritage Estate is a boutique cellar door on the Mitchell Highway at Lucknow, the historic gold-rush village on Orange's eastern edge, with elevated views down the Summer Hill Creek valley. It is listed as dog-friendly on enquiry, and the lawns and outlook make it an easy stop on a wine-region drive rather than a rushed tasting bench.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the grounds and the outdoor lawn area, on a lead, with owners cleaning up after them. Indoor cellar-door access may be allowed but is not guaranteed, so call ahead on 02 6363 5602 before you rely on it. The site is set up for tastings rather than dogs, so pack your own water bowl and a few treats.

Worth knowing

The range runs across cool-climate reds and whites, dessert wines and ports, and tastings are the personal, informative kind rather than a lineup on a bar. Open daily 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesdays. There is ample parking including coach space, wheelchair-accessible entry, and a Tesla charging point if you are topping up while you top up.

Getting there and parking

The address is 4968 Mitchell Highway, Lucknow, minutes east of central Orange. On-site parking sits close to the cellar door and the entry is flat and easy with a dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Orange Botanic Gardens are a short drive back towards town for an on-lead walk. On the wine route, Heifer Station Wines, Philip Shaw Wines and De Salis Wines all take dogs in their outdoor areas, and the Machin Park Fenced Dog Park covers off-leash time in town.
