Highland Heritage Estate is a boutique cellar door on the Mitchell Highway at Lucknow, minutes from Orange, with elevated views over the Summer Hill Creek valley. It is listed as dog-friendly on enquiry, and the lawns and outlook make it a relaxed stop on a wine-region drive.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the grounds and outdoor lawn area, on a lead, with owners cleaning up after them. Indoor cellar-door access may be allowed but is not guaranteed, so call ahead (02 6363 5602) to confirm before you rely on it. The site is set up for tastings rather than dogs, so bring your own water bowl and a few treats.

Known for. Cool-climate reds, whites, dessert wines and ports, panoramic valley views, and a personal, informative tasting. Easy highway access with ample parking, plus a Tesla charging point.

Getting there. 4968 Mitchell Hwy, Lucknow, just outside Orange. On-site parking for cars and coaches, wheelchair-accessible entry. Open daily 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesdays.

Nearby with the dogs. The Orange Botanic Gardens are a short drive for an on-lead walk, and several nearby cellar doors also welcome dogs outdoors.

Best on a fine day for the views and lawn seating. Good for a calm leashed dog; ring ahead if you want the indoor option.
