What visitors mention
Philip Shaw Wines pours its elegant cool-climate wines from a rustic shed on Shiralee Rd, about ten minutes from the Orange town centre. It is one of the region's reliably dog-friendly cellar doors, dogs are welcome to join you for a tasting, which is the whole appeal.
The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor seating and across the surrounding grounds, on a lead and supervised. Tastings happen outdoors with the dog beside you rather than inside the tasting room. Water bowls are sometimes out, but bring your own to be safe.
Known for. Chardonnay, pinot noir and sauvignon blanc grown on a high vineyard site, poured in a relaxed setting with vineyard views. An easy, unhurried stop rather than a polished hospitality machine.
Getting there. 100 Shiralee Rd, a 5 to 10 minute drive from town. On-site gravel parking next to the building.
Nearby with the dogs. The Orange wine region is dotted with dog-friendly cellar doors, De Salis Wines and Ross Hill Wines are both nearby and welcome dogs in their outdoor areas, so you can string a few together.
Best on a fine day when the covered area and lawns are comfortable. Good for a calm dog who is happy lying in the shade while you taste.
