Bloomfield Reserve Dog Park

Bloomfield Reserve Dog Park is Orange's big open-country option: roughly 20 hectares of grass and trees at 21 Bloomfield Road, on the southern side of town toward the Huntley Road end. It is a designated leash-free exercise area open 24 hours, and it reads more like a bush walk than a suburban dog run, with trails, shade and natural water. The catch, and it matters: the space is not fully fenced.

The dog setup

Orange City Council designates the reserve as an off-leash exercise area, with the usual expectations of effective control, cleanup and no aggressive behaviour. The open terrain and semi-rural road edges mean recall is the whole game here; if your dog chases wildlife or wanders, work the visit on a long lead. General waste bins are placed around the reserve, but water taps are limited or seasonal, so carry your own bottle and bowl rather than counting on the dam and creeks for drinking.

Worth knowing

The dam and creek give dogs a genuine swim on warm days, which few Orange dog spots can offer; give the water a quick look over before letting your dog in, as quality varies after rain. One boundary to respect absolutely: the adjoining Gosling Creek Reserve along Forest Road is a strict no-dog zone protecting wildlife and habitat, so keep clear of that edge. There are no public toilets in the dog area.

Getting there and parking

Entry is off Bloomfield Road, south of the Orange city centre, with basic parking near the reserve entrance. A car is the practical way in; the site is on the semi-rural fringe rather than a walk from town. Early mornings and late afternoons draw the regulars, and the reserve stays quiet at other hours.
