Heifer Station Wines

Heifer Station Wines runs its cellar door from a century-old wool shed on a 65-hectare property at Borenore, 10 to 15 minutes from Orange. It is a relaxed, family-friendly, dog-friendly spot with big lawns and vineyard views, and a working farmyard that makes it as much an afternoon out as a tasting.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome across the spacious outdoor lawns and garden seating, on a lead at all times. Tastings are an outdoor affair, do not count on indoor access. The catch here is the resident farm animals: free-roaming sheep, chickens and a pony, plus a petting area, so a dog with a strong chase instinct needs a firm hold and close watch.

Known for. Cool-climate pinot noir, chardonnay and merlot grown at altitude, wine and cheese platters, lawn games and the rustic shearing-shed setting.

Getting there. 1034 The Escort Way, Borenore. Ample free gravel parking right by the cellar door.

Best on a fine day when the lawns come into their own. Good for social dogs that ignore livestock; not the spot for a keen herder.
