Ridley Oval at East Orange pairs a fenced off-leash area at the end of Caroline Street with a large open oval alongside, so you get a secure run and room to roam in one spot. It is an easy, low-key local park off McLachlan Street.

The rules. Dogs off-leash when no organised sport is on the oval; if a game is running, leash up. Keep dogs under effective control, at least 10 metres clear of playground equipment and BBQ areas, and on-lead in those zones. Clean up after your dog, bins are provided.

What's there. A fully fenced designated area plus the adjoining open oval, water for dogs, shade trees and wheelchair-accessible entry.

The big open oval next to the fenced pen is great for a proper run, just make sure recall is solid before you use the unfenced side.

Getting there. Fenced area at the end of Caroline Street, off McLachlan Street near Edward Street in East Orange. Accessible parking available.

Nearby with the dogs. Dog-friendly cafes around East Orange and central Orange, including spots with covered courtyards, are a short drive for after.

Best mid-week mornings or early afternoons for quiet; weekends and mornings draw the locals. Good for dogs that want a fenced pen plus an open oval to stretch out.
