T H Westfield Reserve

Big, tree-dotted lawns above the meeting of Merri Creek and the Yarra make T H Westfield Reserve one of Clifton Hill's go-to off-lead spots. It sits on the corner of Yarra Bend Road and Heidelberg Road, with the Main Yarra Trail running through.

Leads and the off-lead area

The reserve is a designated dog off-leash area in the City of Yarra, next to Parks Victoria's Yarra Bend Park. Dogs must go back on lead within 5 metres of the picnic shelters and the sealed trails.

The walk

Open grass gives way to steep, bush-covered banks falling to the creek. Sealed paths, including the Westfield extension of the Main Yarra Trail, mix with dirt and gravel tracks for a longer loop.

The car park on the western side has toilets and bins. Down the hill, a large shelter has a water tap with a dog bowl, and the scattered trees give good shade.

Max: There are high, unfenced cliffs just south of the toilet block by the creek, and busy Heidelberg Road runs along the north side. Recall matters here, and in summer watch for snakes in the scrub by the water.

Best for confident dogs with reliable recall who love space to run. Cooler months are easiest, when snakes are quiet.
