Fleming Park Dog Off Leash Area

Fleming Park is a central Brunswick East park built around a large grassy oval, and its dog off-leash area runs 24 hours a day. It is one of the more practical off-leash spots in the inner north for a proper ball game or a run, with parking, toilets and updated lighting for early and late walks.

The rules. The oval is off-leash 24/7, but dogs must stay under effective voice control the whole time. Keep your dog on-leash within 15 metres of the children's playground and within 15 metres of the sporting ground fence. When organised sport is on, dogs must be off the field entirely. Bring your own bags; pick up and use the bins provided.

Worth knowing about the fencing. There is only partial perimeter fencing, so this is not a fully enclosed dog park. A dog with reliable recall is fine here; a bolter or a new rescue is safer on a long line until you know how they handle the open edges.

What's there. Large open oval for running, seating and picnic tables, a playground and a basketball court nearby, public toilets, and well-lit parking that helps for winter mornings and evenings.

The ground. It is mostly open grass, which gets genuinely muddy after rain. Keep a towel in the car through the wetter months.

Getting there. The park sits on Albert Street with on-street parking. The Route 1 and 6 trams along Lygon Street stop nearby, and it is an easy walk or ride from the surrounding streets.

Nearby with the dogs. The Lygon Street cafes with footpath seating are a short walk away for a coffee afterward, and there are pet-friendly rentals across Brunswick East and Brunswick if you are staying over.

Sunday mornings and Monday evenings are the busiest. For space to yourself, aim for a Tuesday morning or a Thursday night. Good for big runners with solid recall.
