Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail

The Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail is a roughly 3 km sealed path repurposed from a former railway spur line, running point-to-point between Logan Village and Yarrabilba south of Brisbane. It is flat, wide and easy underfoot, threading a bushland corridor that is popular with dog walkers, joggers and cyclists, and it works equally well as a short leg-stretch or an out-and-back of about 6 km.

Leash status

Dogs are welcome on the trail on-lead for the entire route, with standard Logan City Council rules applying. Stick to the sealed pathway to protect the wildlife and habitat along the corridor, and carry your own waste bags: no bins or bag dispensers are provided on-site, so pack everything out.

Water and terrain

The surface is asphalt-sealed the whole way, flat and pram-friendly and easy on paws. Dog drinking bowls are positioned along the trail alongside water bubblers, so you can top up without hauling a large supply, and sheltered seating appears at intervals for rest breaks. The corridor alternates between dappled bushland shade and open-sun sections.

Hazards

Sun exposure is the main one. Stretches of the trail have little shade and the sealed surface holds heat, so paws can suffer in the middle of the day; plan summer walks for early morning or late afternoon. Cyclists use the path too, so keep your dog on a short lead on blind corners. Toilets are limited along the main route, though the trailhead end near Dairy Creek has some amenities. Spring brings magpie swooping along bushland sections.

Getting there and parking

The trail starts near Logan Village around the Albert Street area and finishes at Blossom Street in Yarrabilba. Parking at the Logan Village end is limited and can be tight at peak times, while the Yarrabilba end has parking at the end of Blossom Street, which makes it the easier trailhead on busy weekends.

When to go

Early morning is the pick year-round: cooler asphalt, quieter path and better wildlife activity. Late afternoon works well too, and the dappled sections are pleasant in winter at any hour. The trail is open daylight hours with no booking or fees.

While you're out there

The Yarrabilba end connects easily to Buxton Park's fenced dog park if your dog wants some off-lead time after the walk. The Wickham Timber Reserve trail at Cedar Creek is another bushland option nearby, and Cornerstone Cafe at Jimboomba is a dog-friendly coffee stop on the drive home.
