Plunkett Green at Tamborine

Plunkett Green at Tamborine is a family-run, non-powered campground on a working farm at 24 Albert River Place, above the Albert River in the Scenic Rim. Fourteen grassed, drive-through sites, private fire pits, kangaroos in the paddocks and free-roaming horses: this is a bring-your-own-gear stay that takes dogs without fuss, which is exactly why caravan and camper travellers with a dog keep it on their route.

Dogs are welcome across the sites. Let hosts Ann and Tom know you are bringing one when you book through their Facebook page, since that is how the whole operation runs. Keep your dog on lead and under control at all times: this is an active rural property with horses grazing freely and kangaroos passing through, so a dog with a strong chase instinct will need close management. No pet fee or size limit is published, but confirm the details for a large dog or a second one at booking.

Worth knowing

Every site comes with its own portaloo, fire pit, and table and chairs, and there is a shared area with volleyball and basketball. There is no dog wash or dedicated pet water station, so pack bowls, food and everything else your dog needs. The drive-through sites suit bigger rigs, and the access roads are fine for 2WD in dry weather but worth checking after heavy rain.

Pepsi: your own grassy block with room to zoom, but the horses did not sign up to be chased, so the lead stays on outside the site.

Tamborine Mountain's villages and lookouts are a short drive, remembering that Queensland national parks on the mountain prohibit dogs.
