Leash-Free Dog Area

This is the fenced off-leash dog area on Central Avenue near the corner of Southport Avenue, in the middle of Tamborine Mountain township. Run by Scenic Rim Regional Council, it is the go-to spot on the mountain for letting the dog off the lead away from traffic.

The dog setup

Dogs run off-leash inside the fence only. Lead on for entering and exiting, off once you are through the gate. Keep gates closed at all times, stay inside the enclosure with your dog, and keep them under effective voice control. Pick up after your dog and bring your own bags. Dogs that are unwell or known to be aggressive should stay home.

Pepsi: this is a compact council park, not a sprawling dog park. Set expectations for a solid stretch of the legs rather than a marathon, and it is brilliant for a small or medium dog.

The vibe

A fully fenced, grassed and tree-shaded enclosure separated from the road, with drinking water available and basic bench seating. The red dirt surface can turn dusty or muddy depending on the weather. A small children's playground sits next door and public toilets are in the vicinity, with clean council toilets regularly mentioned by visitors. Entry is wheelchair-accessible.

Getting there

Central Avenue at the Southport Avenue intersection is a short walk from the main township. Best reached by car up the mountain roads; regional buses run through but do not drop you at the gate. There is accessible parking nearby.

While you're out there

Dog-friendly cafes surround the park: At The Avenue Coffee & More is right around the corner, and Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation is a short drive for a feed afterwards. If you are staying over, Songbirds Rainforest Retreat takes pets. Note that the surrounding Tamborine National Park sections do not allow dogs, so keep walks to council parks and streets.
