The short version. Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation on Alpine Terrace is a working coffee plantation and cafe, and dogs are welcome across its large outdoor and garden areas. It is one of the more genuinely dog-friendly spots on the mountain, with room to spread out and a farm-to-cup story behind the coffee.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome in the alfresco seating and the surrounding grounds. Dogs are not permitted inside the cafe building, standard for food premises. There is plenty of outdoor table space, so a bigger dog or two is not a problem. Bring your own bowl to keep water sorted.

Known for. Coffee roasted on-site from plantation-grown beans, plus a full breakfast and lunch menu in a rustic, rural setting. It runs seven days, roughly 7am to mid-afternoon, so it works for both an early coffee and a leisurely weekend brunch.

Getting there. 64 Alpine Terrace, with onsite parking that includes space for larger vehicles. Weekends get busy, so arrive earlier for a good outdoor table and an easy park.

Nearby with the dog. The fenced Leash-Free Dog Area on Central Avenue is about five minutes away for an off-leash run. For leashed walks, Robert Sowter Park on Main Western Road is a pleasant sunset spot. Steer clear of the Tamborine National Park sections, which do not allow dogs.

Aim for a weekday or an early weekend morning for the calmest visit and the pick of the shaded tables.
