Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation

Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation on Alpine Terrace is a working coffee plantation with its own roastery and a cafe that spills across more than half an acre of garden seating. It is one of the genuinely dog-friendly spots on the mountain: leashed dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor gardens, and there is room to spread out in a way village cafes cannot manage.

The dog setup

Dogs take the alfresco tables and the surrounding gardens on leash. The cafe building itself is off limits, as with any food premises, but the outdoor space is so large that a settled dog is no trouble, and bigger dogs or two-dog families cope fine. Pick a shaded table in summer; bring your own water bowl to be safe, and note the grounds are popular with families, so keep dogs clear of the play areas.

Worth knowing

Coffee is roasted on site from plantation-grown beans, and the coffee tasting board is the signature serve. The seasonal brunch menu covers a bacon benny, wild mushrooms on toast, a brekkie quesadilla and gyoza, with solid vegetarian and vegan options and cakes for morning tea. Trading runs mornings to early afternoon across Monday and Friday through Sunday, with the village quiet midweek, so plan a weekend brunch or a Monday coffee stop.

Getting there and parking

The plantation sits at 64 Alpine Terrace on the mountain plateau, about an hour south of Brisbane and 40 minutes from the Gold Coast. There is on-site parking with room for larger vehicles, and weekends fill early, so an arrival before 9am buys you both a park and the pick of the tables.

Close by with the dogs

The Tamborine Mountain leash-free dog area at Staffsmith Park, on the corner of Southport Avenue and Central Avenue, is a short drive away and fully fenced with water and waste bins; council also runs a second fenced off-leash yard at Youngman Family Park on Giessman Drive. Leave the national park tracks for another day, as dogs are strictly prohibited in Tamborine National Park. In the village, At The Avenue Coffee and More is another dog-welcoming coffee stop and Tamborine Beer Garden does dog-friendly outdoor meals.
