Canungra Dog Park

Canungra Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area within Moriarty Park on Coburg Road, on the edge of the Scenic Rim township near the showgrounds. It gives dogs a secure space to run on open, mown grass, which makes it a handy break mid-journey rather than a marquee facility, and the mixed feedback from locals supports exactly that framing.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with secure gating and offers shaded seating for owners and bins on site. There has not been reliable drinking water at the park, so bring your own for both ends of the leash, especially in the warmer months. Supplies like waste bags can also run low, so pack your own rather than counting on the dispensers.

Scenic Rim Regional Council's off-leash rules apply: leads on until you are inside the fence, effective control the whole time, dogs legally declared menacing or dangerous are not permitted, and owners are responsible for their dogs at all times, with no dogs left unattended.

Worth knowing

The surroundings are rural, so be mindful of longer grass and overgrown edges in the warmer months when snakes are more active. The park is on the smaller side compared with city facilities, which suits a quick energy burn better than a long social session. If your dog is picky about company, weekday mornings and early afternoons are quietest, with weekends drawing the bigger crowd.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at 47 Coburg Road, a short drive from the centre of Canungra and an easy detour for anyone heading to or from Lamington National Park or Tamborine Mountain. Free parking is available nearby. There is no useful public transport, so this is a drive-in spot.

Close by with the dogs

Coffee once the dog has settled works at Cafe Metz in town, and up the range the Tamborine Mountain Leash-Free Dog Area is the council's other nearby off-leash option. If you are staying in the valley, the Canungra Showgrounds and Camping site is close by.
