Cafe Metz sits on the main street in the middle of Canungra, a reliable coffee-and-breakfast stop for anyone heading into the Scenic Rim or up towards Lamington. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, so it works well as a first or last stop on a hinterland day out.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating out the front, on the footpath directly by the cafe. It is a people-watching spot rather than a sprawling courtyard, so keep your dog tucked close to the table. Staff are used to dogs and will usually bring out a water bowl if you ask.

Good to know. The coffee is Merlo, and the kitchen runs a full breakfast and lunch menu with fresh, hearty food. It gets busy on weekends, especially with the motorbike and touring-car crowd passing through town.

Getting there. You will find it on Kidston Street in central Canungra. Street parking runs along Kidston Street and fills up on weekends; there is a public car park behind the shops if the front is full.

Nearby with the dogs. The Canungra Creek walk and the open green space in the centre of town are both an easy stroll away, so you can walk off breakfast before driving on.

Go on a weekday morning for a calm table and easy parking. Good for a quick refuel before a longer hinterland drive.
