Canungra Hotel

The Canungra Hotel is a historic country pub at 15 Kidston Street in the heart of town, a natural lunch or drinks stop on a Scenic Rim drive. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor beer garden, which is what makes it work for a day out with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed in the beer garden, not inside the main hotel. The garden has shaded tables, staff are used to dogs and have been known to offer covered spots when the weather turns, and water dishes appear for four-legged patrons. Footpath seating out the front may be available depending on how busy they are, so check on arrival and keep your dog leashed throughout.

The vibe

It is a welcoming rural pub trading on pub classics, wood-fired pizza and parmys, with live music on weekends and a big pull from drivers touring the Scenic Rim. Weekends get busy, so a settled dog on lead is the key to a relaxed table.

Getting there

The pub sits on Kidston Street in central Canungra, about 35 minutes inland from the Gold Coast. Street parking runs along Kidston Street and gets tight on weekends; the side streets usually have more space within a short walk.

Close by with the dogs

Canungra Dog Park is the town's off-lead option for before or after lunch, and Cafe Metz and Giddyup Gelato Cafe on Christie Street both take dogs at their outdoor tables. For another stop on the circuit, the Tamborine Beer Garden up the hill is the mountain version.
