The short version. At The Avenue Coffee & More is a small owner-run cafe just off Gallery Walk on Southport Avenue, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables. It is the low-key, non-touristy end of the mountain, good for a quiet coffee with the dog at your feet.

The dog setup. Dogs sit with you outside, where there is plenty of seating and easy access from the footpath. Dogs are not permitted in the indoor dining area, standard for a food premises. Staff are accommodating, but bring your own collapsible bowl so water is never a question.

Known for. Fresh all-day food, well-regarded coffee and fair prices. It runs shorter hours than the tourist strip, roughly 8:30am to mid-afternoon on weekdays and earlier close on weekends, so it suits a morning visit rather than a late lunch.

Getting there. Find it on Southport Avenue off Long Road, a step back from the main strip. There is free street parking plus a nearby free lot, so parking is rarely the headache it can be closer to Gallery Walk.

Nearby with the dog. The fenced Leash-Free Dog Area on Central Avenue is a few minutes away for a run before or after. Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation is another dog-friendly option nearby if you want to make a morning of it.

Come early on a weekday for the calmest experience and a table in the shade.
