BearBrass is a casual all-day bar and eatery on the mid-level of the Southgate complex, overlooking the Yarra River and the city skyline. For dog owners it works as an outdoor stop with one of the better river views in Southbank, popular from breakfast through to dinner.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating on the walkway side, where the river-facing tables are. Indoors is not the place for dogs, so plan on an alfresco table. Staff are generally happy to bring out a water bowl. Because outdoor tables fill up in good weather, it is worth mentioning the dog when you book.

Good to know. Reviewers rate it for the river outlook and city views, with a menu that runs to burgers, fish and chips, pizzas, paella, calamari and schnitzels. It is an easy casual bite before or after wandering the Southbank precinct.

Getting there. BearBrass is at 3 Southgate Avenue, easy to reach on foot along the Yarra promenade and a short walk from Flinders Street Station across Princes Bridge. Paid parking is available in the Southgate complex, with limited paid street parking around it.

Nearby with the dogs. The Yarra River path runs right past the door for a walk before or after, and Alexandra Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens are roughly ten minutes on foot for a larger green stretch.
