Moray Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits under the Kings Way overpass at the corner of Moray Street and Kings Way in Southbank. Its defining feature is the roof over your head: the overpass keeps the whole run dry, which makes this the go-to fenced off-lead space in the area when it rains, and a genuine 24-hour option for apartment dogs in the high-rise streets around it.

The dog setup

The perimeter is fully fenced with a double-gate entry, and dogs run off-lead inside the boundary. City of Melbourne rules apply: carry a leash, stay within the fence with your dog under effective control, leash and remove any dog showing aggression, and clean up in the bins provided. Once outside, dogs go back on-lead on the surrounding footpaths, and greyhounds and restricted breeds stay subject to state leash and muzzling laws.

Max: the space is small and fully fenced, so it can feel cramped when busy. Give the entrance a wide berth at changeover times.

What is on site

The surface is gravel and rock, which keeps it mud-free year round, with a dog drinking fountain, some agility and play equipment, and the covered shelter from the overpass itself. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Getting there and parking

An easy walk for Southbank and Sturt Street residents, and trams along St Kilda Road and Kings Way put it in reach of the rest of the city. Driving is the weak point: metered street parking nearby is limited and hard to find at peak times.

When to go

Weekday early mornings and late afternoons are the busy windows, plus Sunday evenings and Monday mornings. Saturday afternoons and mid-week mornings are calmest. If your dog reads other dogs slowly, pick one of the quieter windows, and remember that in wet weather this is one of the few places nearby where the run still goes ahead.
