Mossdale Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Mossdale Reserve is a small, roughly half-hectare local reserve off Mossdale Court in Templestowe, an open green pocket that doubles as a pedestrian link between the surrounding courts. This is a community-scale spot for a short off-leash run and a leg-stretch, not a regional dog park destination.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash in the designated area under effective control, with the usual Manningham conditions: back on the lead within 15 metres of the playground, barbecue and picnic areas, and whenever a sporting event is on. The reserve is unfenced, so recall matters more here than at an enclosed park. Carry bags and use the bins provided, and check the council signage on arrival to confirm the off-leash boundaries.

Worth knowing

The space is a grassed open area with paved paths, a multi-age playground with slide, swings and monkey bars, and a couple of picnic tables. A drinking fountain is on site, but bringing your own water is still the safe bet on warm days. Because the reserve doubles as a walk-through between streets, keep an eye on passing foot traffic and other dogs at the unfenced edges. Weekday middays and Sunday afternoons are the quiet windows; early mornings and the after-work stretch from late afternoon draw the local regulars. It suits small dogs and calm, well-socialised animals best.

Getting there and parking

Access is from Mossdale Court, a quiet residential cul-de-sac where free street parking is generally easy to find, though spaces right at the walkway entrance are limited. Local bus routes on the nearby main roads leave a short walk to the reserve.

Close by with the dogs

For a bigger run, Fielding Reserve and Spring Valley Reserve are both nearby off-leash options, and Hermann Reserve covers the other side of the suburb. Petty's Orchards makes a relaxed stop afterwards.
