Petty's Orchards

Petty's Orchards at 1 Homestead Road is a rustic cafe set in a historic 44-hectare orchard on the Yarra in Templestowe, and it is one of the easier dog days out in the area. Dogs on leads are welcome through the orchard grounds and the outdoor seating, with the Yarra walking trail right alongside.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on-lead in the spacious outdoor seating and through the orchard grounds. Water bowls are often put out for visiting dogs, though it is worth bringing your own. Keep dogs leashed to respect the working organic orchard and the nearby wetlands and wildlife.

Good to know. The cafe is known for organic produce, homemade pies and cakes, and Devonshire teas, and the orchard holds one of the largest heritage apple collections on mainland Australia. Kangaroos are often about in the trees near the cafe. It runs Wednesday to Sunday; confirm hours before a trip.

Nearby with the dogs. The riverside Yarra trail runs directly from the orchard, and Westerfolds Park is a short drive for more walking. Note that dogs are not permitted in some adjacent restricted park zones, so check signage.
