Eltham North Dog Park

Eltham North Dog Park is a fully fenced off leash park on Wattletree Road in Eltham North, managed by Nillumbik Shire Council. Its selling point is a dual zone layout: a large main run for social, energetic dogs and a separate quieter space where small or nervous dogs can decompress away from the pack.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off lead inside the fence but must stay under effective control, meaning reliable voice command or constant line of sight. Outside the fence, leads are mandatory within five metres of shared paths, including the Diamond Creek Trail nearby. Bins and poo bags are provided on site.

The terrain mixes open grass with natural enrichment: bark chips, logs and rocks that double as informal agility gear. A shade shelter with seating gives owners a spot to sit, and a water fountain has a dedicated dog bowl filler. After heavy rain, sections can be cordoned off on rotation to protect the turf.

Max: Bring a towel in winter. The grass holds water after sustained rain, and the rotating closures mean whatever is left open can get chewed up fast.

The vibe

The park sits near the Eltham North Adventure Playground, so the broader reserve sees plenty of family traffic on weekends, and the playground means this is an easy split outing if you have kids in tow. Weekday mornings are the quiet window if your dog prefers space to work, while weekend mornings and weekday evenings draw the biggest crowds.

Getting there and parking

Free on site parking sits adjacent to the park, and driving is the most practical way in. Local buses run along Wattletree Road, and Eltham Station is reachable by car or a longer walk along the creek trail.

Close by with the dogs

Eltham's cafe strip is a short drive south when the run is done: Third Chapter and The Meeting Pool Cafe both welcome dogs. If you are staying over, Eltham Retreat Guest House is a dog friendly base with trail access.
