Watsonia Dog Park

Watsonia Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash park at 33 Lambourn Road in Watsonia, in Banyule's patch of Melbourne's north-east. It gives local dogs a secure grassed space to run and socialise without a traffic edge in play.

The dog setup

The perimeter is fully gated, so once you are inside the fence your dog can go lead-free. There is a water fountain, bowls and benches for owners, and street parking right by the access points off Lambourn Road. The ground is open grass rather than agility equipment, so it suits dogs that mostly want a run and a sniff rather than obstacles.

There is no separate small dog enclosure, and the single shared space mixes every size of dog. If yours is small, shy or new to dog parks, check who is in before you unclip the lead and be ready to keep voice and hand control throughout.

Worth knowing

Mid-morning on weekdays is the quiet stretch, roughly 10am to 1pm, while early mornings and after-work hours draw the biggest crowds. Carry a bottle on warm days because the water setup is basic, and take any rubbish home with you.

Getting there

The park sits on Lambourn Road, an easy walk from Watsonia Railway Station on the Hurstbridge line for anyone arriving by train, with kerbside parking for the drive-in visit.

Close by with the dogs

Mr Martins on Lambourn Road and Honey Cafe by the town square are both short walks for a coffee once the dogs are worn out. For a bigger fenced run, Malcolm Blair Reserve in Greensborough is the closest alternative.
