Myrtle Bank Dog Park

Myrtle Bank Dog Park is the fenced off-leash area inside Scammell Reserve, at 59 Fisher Street in Myrtle Bank, run by the City of Unley. One detail shapes every visit here: off-leash access runs from 5pm to 10am daily only. Between 10am and 5pm, dogs must be on a leash even inside the reserve.

The dog setup

Because the reserve doubles as a neighbourhood park, the on-lead daytime hours are not wasted: they suit a loose-lead wander, a picnic table lunch or a quiet sniff around the tree line while the playground hums. Regulars plan their week around the two off-leash windows and treat the rest as an on-lead stroll.

The fenced perimeter is what makes the early-morning and evening windows work: dogs can run free inside it during the off-leash hours, while arrivals and departures stay on lead. Effective voice control is required at all times, dogs need to stay at least five metres from the playground and any public gatherings, and waste goes in the bins, with dispensers usually stocked but worth a backup bag.

The reserve itself is a large open green space with established shade trees, picnic tables and benches. Water bowls and bins are usually provided, but bring your own water to be safe, particularly on summer evenings.

Max: the 10am switch is real. I get a full hour of zoomies at dawn and then it is lead on, or you wait for the arvo session.

Worth knowing

The hours rule is council policy rather than a courtesy, so plan around it rather than risk a fine. Early birds get the quietest run; the evening session after 5pm is the social one. The reserve also carries a playground and tennis courts, which keeps the surrounding area busy during the day.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Fisher Street. Bus stops on Greenhill Road serve the area, and Adelaide Metro routes through Unley will get you close if you are coming without a car.
