Sublime Cafe

Sublime Cafe on East Ave in Clarence Park is a neighbourhood cafe that actually thinks about the dog, not just the owner. The reason to bring yours is simple: free Schmakos on arrival, grass mats laid out in the covered outdoor area so paws are not sliding on paving, and bowls of meat offcuts for a couple of dollars. Most cafes stop at a water bowl, so this is a step up.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor area at the back, which reviewers describe as relaxed and set aside for exactly this purpose. The grass mats are the detail worth knowing about, because they give your dog somewhere comfortable to lie while you eat. Treats on arrival and the offcuts bowl mean even a fussy dog is looked after. Keep your dog on a lead and settled; the space fills at brunch.

Worth knowing

The kitchen turns out brunch standards with the haloumi bites getting repeated mentions, alongside smashed avo, fritters and a solid egg and bacon roll. Staff are consistently noted as friendly, which matters when you are juggling a lead and a flat white. Hours are 8am to 3pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 55 East Ave, Clarence Park, a short drive south-west of the Adelaide CBD with street parking in the surrounding residential streets. It sits between Forestville and Goodwood, so it combines easily with either strip.

Close by with the dogs

For a run-around, Forestville Dog Off-leash Area is nearby. If you are making a day of the inner south, Trouble and Strife, Yugen Art & Coffee and Hey George Community in Goodwood are all a short drive away and used to dogs.
