Hey George Community occupies a heritage cottage at 157 Goodwood Road, Goodwood, easy to pick out by its red door. It runs Tuesday to Saturday only, and the draw for dog owners is a leafy, flower-filled outdoor garden plus footpath seating out the front where dogs are welcome.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the garden area, which gets shade from the trees, or at the front tables along Goodwood Road. Water bowls are generally provided for canine visitors, and the indoor room is people only, so plan your visit around the outdoor seats. It is a relaxed setup that suits a settled dog while you eat.

Worth knowing

The kitchen leans hearty: classic and veggie breakfasts, falafel bowls, salmon bruschetta and popular Turkish rolls such as the Italiana, all with barista-made coffee. Regulars mention the airy interior and welcoming staff, and the cafe keeps a community feel rather than a big-city brunch pace. It is closed Sundays and Mondays, so weekend visits mean Saturday only.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on the Goodwood Road strip with tram and bus stops nearby. Street parking on Goodwood Road itself is limited, so the side streets such as Florence Street or Curzon Avenue are usually easier.

Close by with the dogs

Goodwood Oval, a few minutes away on Curzon Avenue, allows dogs off lead at all times outside organised sport, with big shade trees and water on site per the City of Unley. Heywood Park in Unley Park is nearby too, with off-lead access in its western sector between 5pm and 10am.
