HARK! Coffee Roasters

HARK! Coffee Roasters roasts its own beans on Duthy Street in Malvern, and the cafe has become a fixture for Adelaide dog owners, helped along by Pilot, the resident cafe dog. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and footpath tables out front, so it is an easy call when you are walking the inner-south streets.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you at the outdoor seating along the front of the cafe. Keep them leashed and off the furniture, as the footpath strip is compact. A water bowl is usually left out for thirsty visitors, but bring your own treats and a travel bowl if your dog is fussy about shared bowls.

The coffee and the menu

The signature is fluid-bed air-roasting, which produces a cleaner cup without the burnt edge drum roasting can leave behind, and bags of whole beans are on the shelf to take home. The kitchen keeps it simple with a brunch menu of bagels, tarts and brownies. Hours run 6:30am to 1:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1:30pm Saturday, and the cafe closes on Sundays, so plan the dog-walk coffee for earlier in the week or a Saturday morning.

The cafe is at 65 Duthy Street, Malvern, a few minutes south of the city. Street parking runs along Duthy Street and the surrounding side streets, though it fills up on weekend mornings, so an early arrival makes the outdoor table easier to claim.
