Just Down The Road

Just Down The Road, or JDTR to everyone who goes regularly, works out of 127 Greenhill Road in Unley, near the Unley Road corner. It trades 7am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 2pm Saturdays, closed Sundays, and it is a sandwich shop first and foremost: big, seriously loaded creations on soft fresh bread, plus solid coffee and daily specials.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables out the front, which are partially sheltered from the weather. Water bowls are typically put out for canine visitors and staff are accommodating. Greenhill Road is a busy arterial, so the practical routine is lead on tight from the kerb, dog settled beside the table away from the traffic edge, and no wandering.

Worth knowing

The menu rotates through options like the roast chook with garlic mayo and avocado, a deli-meats stack with mortadella and provolone, and the Nashville chicken with bread and butter pickles, with the sprinkled donuts covering the sweet end. This is a quick, high-turnover stop rather than a lingering brunch venue, which suits a dog stop well. Weekday lunch is the rush; mid-morning is the calm window.

Getting there and parking

Greenhill Road parking is limited and metered, with Edmund Avenue and Cremorne Street the usual side-street fallbacks. The cafe is an easy walk from much of Unley and sits close to the Unley Oval loop.

Close by with the dogs

A Mother's Milk is the suburb's other dog-friendly coffee stop, and Spread Deli covers the bread-and-cold-cuts side of town. For an off-lead run afterwards, the Milton Gray Reserve Dog Off Leash Area in Malvern is a short drive east.
