Spread Deli

Spread Deli is a delicatessen and cafe at 5/246 Unley Road, known for fresh gourmet paninis, coffee and shelves of boutique pantry goods to take home. The dog story lives out the front: a small footpath seating area where leashed dogs are welcome while you work through a toastie or a BLT.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the limited outdoor footpath tables, not inside. The outdoor area is tight, so keep your dog leashed and out of the walking line to the door. There is no courtyard here, so bring your own portable water bowl rather than counting on one being provided.

The vibe

This is a casual neighbourhood deli rather than a destination brunch room: focaccia sandwiches and sandos, salmon bagels, Mediterranean-style salad bowls, and steak frites on the heartier end. The preserves and pickles section makes an easy edible souvenir. Staff have a reputation for being welcoming, and the pace suits a quick stop.

Max: treat this as a coffee-and-panini stop rather than a lingering sit-down with your dog. The footpath tables are few, and morning is when you will actually get one.

Getting there

The deli sits on Unley Road, the main strip through Adelaide's inner south. Street parking runs along Unley Road and the side streets such as Opey Avenue and Hart Avenue, and several bus routes pass the door if you are walking your dog in from further afield.

While you're out there

Unley Oval is a short walk or drive away for a proper run after lunch, with local signage marking the off-lead zones. If the footpath tables are full, A Mother's Milk and Just Down the Road are other Unley cafe options, and Unley Social sits a little south toward Goodwood.
