Munn Reserve

Munn Reserve is a small, sloping grassed park in Millers Point on the corner of Argyle Place, High Street and Munn Street, minutes from Barangaroo and Walsh Bay. The City of Sydney lists it as dog off-leash at all times, which makes it a rare thing in the Sydney CBD: a patch of grass where city dogs can actually run free without watching the clock.

The dog setup

Off-leash status applies to the designated grassed section; on the surrounding footpaths and streets dogs need to be back on the lead, and the rule bites right at the boundary. Even off-leash, dogs must stay under effective control and respond to voice. Waste bag dispensers and bins sit around the perimeter, and on-the-spot fines apply if you skip the cleanup. On-site water can be unreliable, so bring a travel bowl. The reserve is bordered by residential apartments, so keep the noise down early and late.

Worth knowing

Mature trees shade the grass and there are benches for owners to sit and watch, with the historic Millers Point streetscapes all around. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are quietest; locals fill the reserve on weekday evenings from about 4:30 to 6pm and on weekend mornings, so time your visit around them if your dog prefers calm company. Stairs nearby lead down towards the Walsh Bay and Barangaroo foreshores for an on-leash leg stretch afterwards.

Max: stick to the grassed area for off-leash time. The moment you step onto the footpath or street, the lead goes back on, the council rule applies right at the boundary.

Getting there and parking

Street parking around Millers Point is tight and mostly resident-permit only, so a paid parking station nearby is the easier bet if you must drive. Circular Quay and Wynyard are the closest train stations, each around a 15 to 20 minute walk through The Rocks, and the L1 light rail stops at Barangaroo just up the hill.

Close by with the dogs
