Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park sits on Point Street in Pyrmont, a big unfenced grassy hill with panoramic views over Rozelle Bay and the Anzac Bridge. It is one of the suburb's most popular social spots, but the off-leash window is time-limited, so timing your visit matters.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash on the main lawn only between 4:30pm and 10:30am daily. Outside that window, from 10:30am to 4:30pm, dogs must be on a leash. The park is unfenced and sits right against open water and a public walking path, so a reliable recall matters even during off-leash hours. Pick up after your dog: bins are usually stocked, but bring your own bags as backup.

What's there. Plenty of public seating and steps for taking in the water view, concrete paths for walking (leash on for the paths), and public water taps for a drink stop.

Getting there. John Street Square light rail stop is about a five-minute walk, and several buses stop on Pirrama Road, two to three minutes away. Parking is tight: mostly 1 or 2-hour ticketed street parking on Point Street or Bowman Street, so this is an easier trip on foot or transit if you're coming from elsewhere in the inner city.

Nearby with the dogs. Several cafes along Pirrama Road and toward Darling Harbour have dog-friendly outdoor seating. Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour and other nearby hotels are pet-friendly options for a stay, though it is worth confirming policy and fees when booking.

Weekday mornings before work and the 4:30 to 6:30pm window are the busiest times, with weekends consistently busy too. For a quieter visit, aim for mid-morning around 10am, just before the leash rule kicks back in, or a weekday afternoon if you don't mind keeping your dog on lead. The main lawn is safe from tidal issues, but check conditions if your dog likes to swim, as the water's edge can drop off steeply in places.
