Dog park at Federal Park

Federal Park's off-leash area sits on the Glebe Foreshore in Annandale, a big open grass paddock running down to the harbour with a skyline view and swimming access. It is off-leash 24 hours a day, and it links straight onto the Bay Run and the GreenWay trails, so it doubles as a start or end point for a longer walk.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash in the designated grassy area and swim along the foreshore. Getting there. The park is on Chapman Road, Annandale, a short walk from the Jubilee Park light rail stop. Parking is limited and fills fast on weekends, so the light rail or a walk along the Glebe Foreshore Walk is the easier option at peak times.

Watch-outs. The foreshore water can turn murky after rain, and it is worth checking for blue-green algae warnings before letting a dog swim. Jellyfish also turn up along the foreshore in warmer months.

Nearby with the dogs. Tramsheds at Harold Park has several dog-friendly outdoor dining spots a short walk away, and Glebe Point Road has a run of cafes further along, including Bellevue Cottage.

Weekend mornings and afternoons draw a crowd, so a Friday evening or weekday midday visit is the quieter play. Good for dogs that love to swim and socialise, provided their recall can handle an unfenced foreshore.
