Absolute Cravings

Absolute Cravings operates from Tumbetin Lodge at the entrance to the Palmetum Botanical Gardens, 555 University Road, Annandale, and it is one of Townsville's most committed pet-friendly cafes: dogs are welcome across the outdoor seating and shaded veranda, on lead. The cafe keeps health-conscious brunch hours from around 8am to 2pm, though trading days have shifted before, so check its socials before a special trip. The Palmetum entrance carpark fills early on fine weekend mornings, so arrive with the dog walked and the table claimed before nine.

The dog setup

Dogs settle on the veranda and outdoor tables, and staff are used to four-legged customers, sometimes with a treat to hand. Bring a water bowl just in case one is not out. The leafy Palmetum paths start at the door, so a lap of the gardens before or after breakfast is the natural routine.

Worth knowing

The menu leans fresh and nourishing, with gluten-free and coeliac accommodations, solid coffee and milk alternatives, and house favourites like the Smashed Avo Goddess and a sweet potato fritter Benny. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly rather than fine dining, and the garden setting takes the edge off Townsville heat better than most strip-front cafes. Free off-street parking inside the gardens makes an easy arrival with a dog in tow, and the grounds give the kids and the dog somewhere to burn off energy while the table is held.
