Rossiter Park Fenced Dog Park

Rossiter Park's fenced dog park sits on the banks of the Ross River in Aitkenvale, a large off-leash area with mature shade trees and a floating pontoon down to the water. It is the go-to fenced park for Townsville's inner suburbs, big enough for a proper run and popular enough that you will usually have company.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash only inside the fenced area itself. Keep them leashed in the car park and the surrounding open parkland outside the fence line. Owners must keep dogs under voice control even inside the fence, pick up and bin waste, and remove any dog that is acting aggressively toward other dogs or people.

What's there. The fenced zone has agility equipment, water access via a pontoon on the river, and enough mature trees for genuine shade through the middle of the day. The wider park adds picnic tables, BBQs, public toilets and a playground, so it works for a family outing as well as a dog walk.

Getting there. The park is at 3-43 Kimball St, Aitkenvale. On-site parking includes an accessible bay, but the car park fills on weekend afternoons, so aim for a morning visit if you want an easy spot.

When to go. Early mornings draw a regular crowd of well-socialised regulars and are the calmest window if your dog is anxious around others. Sunday and Monday afternoons and Saturday evenings are the busiest; Tuesday and Friday nights are quieter.
