Discovery Parks - Townsville is a large holiday park on the Bruce Highway at 540-546 in Wulguru, a short drive south of the Townsville CBD and about 20 minutes from the airport. It is built for families, with a swimming pool, waterpark, jumping pillow and camp kitchen, and dogs are welcome across its camping and caravan sites.

The pet rules on site

Dogs are permitted on powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites, provided you disclose your pet at the time of booking. Sources disagree on cabins: some listings advertise a pet-friendly two-bedroom cabin type, while others treat cabins as off-limits, so if you want a roof rather than your own van or tent, confirm cabin pet eligibility and any fee directly with the park before you book. Standard rules apply on the ground: leash your dog whenever you are outside your site, never leave a pet unattended, and keep pets clear of the pool, playground and camp kitchen. Bring your own bowls and waste bags, and expect a pet fee or refundable deposit to be settled with the park team.

Sites are roomy and the family facilities are the draw: swimming pool, waterpark and jumping pillow for the kids, plus a camp kitchen for group cooking. Peak school holiday weeks book out fast, so travel outside them if you can. Parking at your site is free.

Getting into Townsville

The Strand's dog-friendly promenade, Rowes Bay beachfront and the Castle Hill walking tracks are all a short drive north, and the Townsville Main Dog Park at Aitkenvale gives a proper off-lead run. For supplies or a feed near the park, OOM Energy Wulguru is the suburb's local cafe, and BIG4 Townsville Gateway Holiday Park at Cluden is the other pet-friendly park option on the southern side.
