Murray Park Fenced Dog Park on Murray Lyons Crescent gives Townsville dogs two fully fenced, gated enclosures, a large main yard and a separate section for small dogs, with shade, water and agility gear to make it a proper daily stop. It sits alongside the wider Murray sporting complex, so there is usually something else going on around it.

The dog setup

Both zones are fully fenced and double-gated, with the small-dog section separated by high-security perimeter fencing. Leads stay on until you are through the gates, then dogs run off-lead under effective voice control. Townsville City Council requires current registration and microchipping, aggressive dogs are not welcome and must be muzzled in public spaces, and dogs with a history of fighting should not enter. Owners clean up on the spot and fill in any holes their dogs dig. Bags and bins are generally supplied, and the main area carries agility equipment, shaded seating and drinking water.

The vibe

Weekday late afternoons and weekend mornings draw the biggest crowds, and the regulars are a friendly lot by most accounts. The Townsville heat bites even with shade sails up, so dogs that overheat easily do better in the early morning or early evening.
