Missy Moo's Coffee

Missy Moo's Coffee is a small, locally run cafe at 410 Ross River Road in Cranbrook, a residential suburb a few kilometres inland from central Townsville. It trades weekday mornings only, 8am to 1pm Monday to Friday, and builds its reputation on quality espresso and homemade scones. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which makes it a natural stop on a dry-season morning walk.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating out front of the shop. It is a compact, casual spot, better suited to a quick coffee stop with the dog than a long sit-down brunch, and staff are known around the suburb for being friendly towards pets. As with any small independent cafe, it is worth asking that water bowls are out rather than assuming, especially in the build-up when the heat is punishing.

On the menu

Coffee leads the list, backed by teas, chai and dirty chai, hot chocolate, iced drinks and fruit smoothies for the tropical mornings. The food side is homestyle: homemade scones and sweet bakes are the signature, with savory pies and light breakfast or lunch bites filling out the cabinet. Reviewers consistently single out the food, and the scones in particular, as the reason to come back.

The cafe sits on Ross River Road with free parking onsite, including wheelchair-accessible spaces, and free street parking in the surrounding blocks. Hours are short, so plan the visit for a weekday morning rather than a weekend run.

Close by with the dogs

The Gleeson's Weir Park dog off-leash area is the suburb's own riverside option, fenced on the park side and open to the Ross River for a swim, with heavy shade from mature trees. The Townsville main dog park at Aitkenvale is a short drive east for a bigger run, and The Gypsea Collective in Mundingburra is another dog-friendly cafe along the Ross River corridor.
