Glebe Foreshore Walk

The Glebe Foreshore Walk is a 4.5 km waterfront path running from the Annandale parklands around Rozelle and Blackwattle bays toward Glebe Point, with the ANZAC Bridge in view for most of it. It is flat, sealed, and one of the busiest dog walks in the inner west, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on your dog.

The walk. Easy, 4.5 km, about an hour. Sealed path and boardwalk the whole way, so prams and wheels are fine. It runs point to point along the foreshore, although the parks at the Annandale end let you loop back over grass rather than retracing the path.

The rules. City of Sydney manages the foreshore. Dogs are on lead on the shared path itself, which is the default for the entire route. Several of the parks the path runs through are signed off-leash, including Federal Park, and Bicentennial Park is off-leash on its western side only, with the eastern side on lead. The distinction is signed at each park and it changes within a single park, so read before you unclip. Playgrounds are out.

Water. Bubblers with dog bowls are scattered through the parklands and there are toilets at several points along the foreshore. The bays are working harbour with no safe dog entry, so treat this as a walk rather than a swim.

Hazards. The parks open straight onto the water with nothing between grass and harbour, which matters if you are letting a dog off lead in the signed areas. The path is also genuinely crowded at peak times, with cyclists sharing it.

Getting there. The L1 light rail stops at Jubilee Park and Rozelle Bay, both of which drop you onto the path. Metered parking on Chapman Road is gone by mid morning on weekends, and the residential streets in Annandale and Glebe are the fallback.

Nearby with the dogs. The dog park at Federal Park is the option right on the route, and Canal Reserve is quieter, just inland. The Blackwattle Bay Loop covers the same water as a circuit. The Glebe Hotel is the obvious finish.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon on a weekday if you want space. Weekend mornings are a parade of dogs, which suits some and not others. Sunset over the bridge is the reason to time it late. Good for seniors, on a flat sealed hour.
