Glebe Foreshore Walk

The Glebe Foreshore Walk runs 4.5 km of waterfront path from the Annandale parklands around Rozelle and Blackwattle bays through to Glebe Point, with the ANZAC Bridge in view for most of it. Flat, sealed and easy underfoot, it is one of the busiest dog walks in the inner west, and the mix of on-lead path and signed off-leash parks is exactly what makes it work.

Leash status

Dogs stay on-lead on the shared foreshore path itself, which is the default for the entire route. The City of Sydney signs several of the parks the path passes through as off-leash, including Federal Park, where the foreshore reserves run continuous off-leash at all hours. Bicentennial Park is split: the grassed section west of the canal is off-leash and the eastern side stays on-lead.

The zoning changes within a single park, so read the signage before you unclip, and playgrounds and their surrounds are prohibited to dogs throughout.

Water

Bubblers with dog bowls are scattered through the parklands and there are toilets at several points along the foreshore. The bays themselves are working harbour with no safe swimming entry for dogs, so treat this as a walk rather than a splash outing.

Hazards

The parks open straight onto deep water with nothing between grass and harbour, which matters if you are using the off-leash areas. The path is also genuinely busy at peak times and cyclists share it, so a dog that weaves on a lead needs watching.

Max: off-leash here means off-leash beside deep water with no fence between grass and harbour. Solid recall, or keep the lead on and enjoy the walk anyway.

Getting there and parking

The L1 light rail stops at Jubilee Park and Rozelle Bay, both dropping you straight onto the path, which is the easiest way in. Metered parking on Chapman Road at the Annandale end is usually gone by mid morning on weekends, so arrive early if you are driving. The walk is point to point, but the parks at the Annandale end let you loop back over grass instead of retracing the path.

When to go

Weekday mornings are the calm window; weekends bring joggers, prams and every dog in the postcode. The path is fully exposed, so it is a better early or late walk in summer, and the boardwalk sections hold up fine after rain.

While you're out there

The off-leash area at Federal Park Dog Park sits directly on the route, and the shorter Blackwattle Bay Loop pairs well if you want a second lap. The Glebe Hotel is an easy finish on the Glebe Point end.
