Fig Lane Park

Fig Lane Park is a small pocket park on the corner of Jones and Fig Street in Ultimo, and it is a genuine off-leash area at all times, which makes it one of the more useful patches of green for anyone living in the apartment blocks around Broadway.

The rules. The City of Sydney lists Fig Lane Park as dog off-leash at all times, but dogs still need to be under effective control and kept out of the fenced children's playground. Bring your own waste bags as a backup even though bins are on site.

What's there. The park is compact: a grassed area, shaded bench seating, a children's playground (off limits to dogs), a barbecue, and rubbish bins. There is no dedicated water bowl or dog wash, so carry water on hot days.

Getting there. The address is 320-334 Jones Street, Ultimo. Street parking on Jones Street is narrow and limited, so the light rail is the easier option: Wentworth Park stop is a short walk away, and several bus routes run along nearby Broadway and Wattle Street.

Nearby with the dogs. Quarry St Cafe is a few minutes' walk for a coffee with your dog on the footpath, and Wentworth Park itself is close by for a longer off-leash run.

Best visited mid-morning or mid-afternoon on weekdays when it is quiet. Good for a quick leg-stretch between errands rather than a long visit, given the size.
