W Sydney

W Sydney is the big, sculptural W-brand hotel on Darling Harbour at 31 Wheat Road, and it runs a formal P.A.W. (Pets Are Welcome) program rather than a casual dogs-okay policy. It suits travellers who want a statement stay right on the water and are happy to pay a nightly fee for the privilege.

The dog setup

Dogs and cats up to 18kg are accepted, with a limit of two pets per room and a $150 nightly surcharge on top of the room rate. The P.A.W. package sets the room up with a custom pet bed, food and water bowls, clean-up bags and a Pet In Residence door hanger.

Pets are restricted from the general public and indoor areas, including restaurants, bars and the pool deck. Outside the room they need to be on a leash or in a carrier in the designated transit areas, so this is a sleep-and-walk base rather than a hotel your dog can roam.

The vibe

Expect the full W treatment: bold design, bars and a buzzy scene, which is either the point or the problem depending on your dog. Nervous animals may find the lobby energy and lifts a lot, while confident city dogs will take it in stride. Confirm pet-room availability when booking rather than assuming one is free.

Getting there and out

The hotel sits directly on the Cockle Bay promenades with flat, paved walking straight from the door, and light rail and Wynyard are both close. The Pyrmont to Darling Harbour foreshore walk starts across the bay for a proper morning loop.

The Australian Heritage Hotel in The Rocks is an easy walk for a dog-friendly pub lunch, and Writers Walk adds a harbour-side stretch.
