On lead on the public promenade; dogs are not permitted in the adjacent Royal Botanic Garden.
Writers Walk is a flat, paved promenade along Circular Quay in The Rocks, running about 1.3 km one way between the Overseas Passenger Terminal and the Sydney Opera House. Sixty brass plaques set into the pavement mark the route, with views of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
The walk. An easy, flat out-and-back stroll on paved surface, taking around 30 to 60 minutes at a relaxed pace. Stroller and wheelchair accessible throughout.
The rules. Dogs must stay on lead on the public promenade, as confirmed by Place Management NSW and City of Sydney. Dogs are not permitted in the adjacent Royal Botanic Garden, so keep to the quay rather than drifting into the gardens. Owners must pick up after their dogs.

Water and shade. There is little shade and no water fountains on the path, though some quayside cafes put out water bowls. Toilets are near Circular Quay Station. On hot days this is a fully exposed walk, so go early or late.
Getting there. Any train or ferry to Circular Quay puts you right at the start. Paid parking is available at Wilson Parking on Harrington Street or undercover at the Opera House.
Nearby with the dogs. Refuel at The Australian Heritage Hotel, or stay close by at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.
Go early morning or early evening to dodge the sun and the crowds. Good for seniors and anyone after an easy, scenic wander rather than a proper hike.
