Giba Park

Giba Park is a small, tiered harbour-side park on Point Street in Pyrmont, with grassy terraces stepping down toward Johnstons Bay and views across to Balmain. It is a designated off-leash area, which makes it one of the easier quick runs for a Pyrmont apartment dog.

The rules. Giba Park is a designated off-leash area, but dogs still need to be under effective control at all times. Leash up again on the surrounding residential streets, and keep dogs out of any nearby children's play areas. Bins are provided, but carry your own bags as backup.

What's there. Mature trees give reasonable shade, and there is usually a water bowl or drinking fountain on site along with seating for owners. Public toilets are a short walk away at Pirrama Park rather than on site.

Getting there. Street parking on Point Street and nearby roads is limited and mostly paid. The John Street Square light rail stop is a short walk, and several bus routes run along Miller Street nearby. It is easily reached on foot along Pyrmont's waterfront paths.

Nearby with the dogs. A handful of cafes in the area allow well-behaved dogs on outdoor seating, and some Pyrmont hotels and short-stay listings are pet friendly, so it is worth checking policy at time of booking.

Weekday afternoons around 5pm and Saturday afternoons are the busiest windows. Go mid-week morning or later at night for a quieter run, and take in the harbour view at high tide when it looks its best.
