Harmony Park

Harmony Park on Brisbane Street is one of the main off-leash parks in central Surry Hills, with open lawn, shade trees and a genuine local dog crowd. The draw is a 24/7 off-leash lawn plus a dedicated dog drinking fountain, rare for an inner-city park.

The rules. The main grassed area is off-leash at all times. Keep dogs on-lead on the surrounding footpaths and away from the children's play equipment. You need effective voice control and a lead on hand, and you must clean up after your dog, so bring bags as the on-site supply is not guaranteed.

What's there. A dog drinking fountain and bowls, plenty of bench seating under the tree line, good perimeter shade and lighting for early or late visits.

Getting there. A 5 to 10 minute walk from Central Station and the Capitol Square light rail stop. Street parking is metered and very competitive, so walking, public transport or a ride-share beats driving.

Nearby with the dogs. Crown Street's dog-friendly cafes are close, and Crystalbrook Albion on Riley Street is a pet-friendly base if you are visiting from out of town.

Busiest on weekday evenings after 5pm and weekend mid-mornings. For a nervous or reactive dog, early weekday afternoons are the quiet window.
