Veriu Broadway

Veriu Broadway is an apartment hotel at 35 Mountain Street, right where Ultimo meets Broadway and Chippendale, and it is one of the few inner-Sydney hotels with a published policy that takes both dogs and cats. The rooms are self-contained apartments with full kitchens, washer and dryer, and junior suites with balconies, which makes a stay with a dog far more workable than a standard hotel room.

Dogs and cats are welcome, with a limit of one pet per apartment. Restricted breeds are not accepted, including Pit Bulls, Dogo Argentinos, Japanese Tosas and Presa Canarios, plus hybrid cats such as Bengals and Savannahs. A one-off $250 cleaning fee applies per stay, with a matching $250 security deposit, and service animals are exempt. Pets must be vaccinated, flea-free and in good health, and nothing is supplied, so bring your own bedding, bowls and treats. Pets are strictly confined to the apartment you have booked: no gym, pool or laundry, and none of the shared areas. With only one pet and a contained space, it suits a settled, house-trained dog rather than a puppy or an escape artist.

Max: Since pets are confined to your room outside of walks, ask for an apartment away from the lift lobby if your dog is noise-sensitive.

Out and about from the door

Victoria Park is a five to ten minute walk across Broadway. Under City of Sydney rules dogs are off leash there only between 6pm and 8am, and never near the pool, Lake Northam, playgrounds or barbecues. Wentworth Park, ten to fifteen minutes on foot toward Glebe, allows off leash at all times on its western side only, with the sportsfield off limits during games. Mona off leash dog park in Chippendale is the closest dedicated fenced option, a few blocks south. Fig Lane Park is the small on-lead green space in Ultimo itself for quick toilet breaks, and Quarry St Cafe is the neighbourhood coffee stop a short walk away.
